Bird box making

Working with Ged.

Donna’s LA group went to see Ged in the library to share our designs of bird boxes we would like to make, for our Hingaia whanake. I felt really excited about sharing my ideas with others and seeing their creative ideas as well.

We discussed what type of roof would be best for the design and also, what design would be best for the birds. We thought the best design would probably be a design that is nice and simple for the birds, but they also like certain colours. It was interesting seeing their ideas about what types of roofs and things. We discussed a-lot about how the roof would look like. We are going halfsies so one is going to be a triangle shaped one like this;
or a roof shaped as a horizontal line like this.
Then we decided who would have the triangle shaped roof and the horizontal one.

Today we started creating our bird boxes. The first thing we did was is got our 6 pieces of wood and sanded them . That took quite a while though . Then we drilled in where the screws are going to go and nailed all the pieces of wood together. After that we drilled the hole where the birds go in and used a mallot to bang in the perches. After that we cut out and then put on all our little details and decorations. At the end Ged and Cole discussed to us that at the end of the term we are all going to take our bird boxes home and paint them and then bring them back next term week six, for ag day.
